چکیده

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Hemiepiphyseodesis is commonly used to correct a coronal plane knee deformity during childhood. Since 2007 Blount staple method has been replaced by the eight-Plate Guided Growth System. We retrospectively analysed indications, results and complications of older so as compare them with newer system. MATERIAL AND METHODS In period from 2009 2019, total 98 lower extremities 54 patients were treated hemiepiphyseodesis. Lateral distal femoral angle (LDFA), medial proximal tibial (MPTA) mechanical axis deviation (MAD) measured before after correction. focused on location hemiepiphyseodesis (distal femur/proximal tibia/both), operative time compared implanting 2 or 3 staples. RESULTS The primary correction valgus was achieved in 97%, which only partial observed 9.2% slight overcorrection 6.1%. A 4 (4.1%) underwent subsequent corrective osteotomy. mean LDFA increased 80° 86°, while MPTA decreased 94° 92°. MAD 23 mm mm. reported complication rate 5.1%, including four cases loosening staples one case superficial infection. DISCUSSION It verified that reduction correlates implantation into femur, conversely increase correlated tibia both locations. number implanted (2 3) did not affect size resulting correction, but statistically significantly shorter when instead implanted. CONCLUSIONS an method, it still gives very good low complications. operating can be shortened using only, same effect. parameters are helpful identifying key success treatment remains timing sufficient growth potential. Key words: hemiepiphyseodesis, guided growth, deformity, staple.

Total knee arthroplasty for severe valgus knee deformity.

BACKGROUND Primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in severe valgus knees may prove challenging, and choice of implant depends on the severity of the valgus deformity and the extent of soft-tissue release. The purpose of this study was to review 8 to 11 years (mean, 10 years) follow-up results of primary TKA for varient-III valgus knee deformity with use of different type implants. METHODS Betw...

Severe Valgus Deformity of the Knee: Description of New Surgical Technique for Its Correction

Varus supracondylar osteotomy of the femur is the established procedure for treating painful knees that present lateral arthrosis and valgus deformity. In descriptions of the conventional surgical techniques, there are divergences regarding the location, access route, correction level, fixation type and area for synthesis insertion. This is most evident in cases of severe valgus with angles gre...

A Physiological Soft Tissue Procedure for Hallux Valgus Deformity Correction

Hallux valgus is a soft tissue condition of normal bones deviating from their normal alignment due to failure of their stabilizing ligaments. Affected bones are victims rather than culprits. Osteotomy of normal bones to compensate a soft tissue problem can compromise biomechanics of the all-important first ray for function and complicate the matter. To patients, hallux valgus deformity is mainl...

Scarf Osteotomy for Correction of Hallux Valgus Deformity

Objective: Presentation of clinical and radiological outcome of a case series of scarf osteotomy. Patients and Methods: The study involved 20 patients with 24 feet affected with symptomatic moderate to severe hallux valgus. Clinical assessment was done using American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score. Radiological assessment utilized measurement of hallux valgus angle (HVA), inter...

Effect of Fatigue on Knee Kinematics During Countermovement Jumps in Female Students of Physical Education With Valgus Knee Deformity

Objectives: Skeletal-muscular disorders affect the biomechanics of the human body, especially the lower extremity, with a negative effect on the biomechanics of exercise. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fatigue on the kinematic variables of knee joints during countermovement jumps in female students of physical education with valgus knee deformity.  Methods: Fifte...
